Dear family and friends of DWIU:
Greetings members and friends of DWIU. As we move forward into the new year, allow me to express my appreciation and gratitude to all of our loyal members and supporters. You provided our organization with the help we needed in our most trying of times. Even in the midst of a pandemic, you participated and contributed to all of the community’s activities and events without any second thought. For this, I remove my hat and say thank you all. In the same breath, I am compelled to acknowledge what a difficult time this has been for everyone overall. We are very mindful and respectful of everyone who has had to make life changing decisions and sacrifices to align with the circumstances of today’s world. COVID-19 has done it’s best to keep friends and families apart for some time now. But we have remained united. We have proven capable of sustaining and withstanding the harsh and nasty punches delivered to us by the pandemic.
And now, after three long years, DWIU is ready to move forward at full speed. I am very excited about getting back to doing what we do best. The cultural events, Domino tournaments, charities, blood drives, banquets, humanitarian efforts—the list goes on and on. Allow me share with you one of our many efforts that is currently underway and will be spotlighted in 2024: The executive committee has voted unanimously to adopt a primary school in Jamaica and provide the students with school supplies on a small scale—approximately 150 students. I am currently in communication with the principal of Lime Tree Garden Primary in St. Ann, Jamaica. Once the project’s first phase in Jamaica is complete, we will extend our efforts to underprivileged schools in other parts of the West Indies. Of course, the source of these efforts will be charity donations and sponsorships per our our 501-c-3 status. This is a worthy cause, and I am asking for all the support and help as usual. Moving forward, let me take this moment to congratulate HMCDC’s newly elected President, Dr. Paul Johnson and VP. Mrs. Artencia Rafington. We have not known each other very long, but I do know that the DWIU community has nothing but respect and wonderful things to share about you sir. That Mr. President is an Ace in my book. I am looking forward to working with you. Also, let’s not forget HMCDC’s outgoing/Past President, Mr. Leslie Weir. You have held the fort down through thick and thin for a long period of time. Sir, you are the epitome of dedication and commitment. To you, Mr. Weir, I say job well done and thank you for the camaraderie and support for DWIU.
To everyone, stay blessed now and always,
~ President Chin
